GOAL

Challengers must build a Cansat and do a flight schedule to accomplish one of the following missions:  Sabio Caldas Mission; Nicola Tesla Mission or Cardio-satellite (Jorge Reynolds) Mission. The main focus of this contest is the design, construction and testing or simulation of the CANSAT. This call does not include the presentation of the shuttle or the realization of the flight (because this corresponds to future goals).

Sabio Caldas Mission. The Caldas Wise mission is to building a CAN-SAT that includes electronic devices to measure temperature, atmospheric pressure and altitude. The CANSAT Volume is 350 ml and Weight, 500 grams +/- 5%. All components must be contained in the can. The parachute and the antenna are the only external elements to CANSATContestants must design, build and test a telemetry system. Contestants must demonstrate that the telemetry system is capable of transmitting data from 1000 meters away and the data will be transmitted once per second. The data must be captured by a base station.  The base station is expected to receive data and make graphs of time, temperature, atmospheric pressure and others according to the abilities of the contestants. Please show the simulation (in photos or video or print screen). This mission is a tribute to the hypsometer invented by Francisco José de Caldas in 1793. The so-called Mission "Sabio Caldas" is basic and mandatory for all contestants; includin the PARROTS category.

Nicola Tesla Mission. In addition to the basic mission (Misión Sabio Caldas), The Nikola Tesla mission must adds a data acquisition module through geolocation sensors (GPS / GALILEO) and transmit it to the base station. Optionally, contestants can add gyroscope measurement, or altimeter, or solar radiation or ultraviolet rays or infrared rays or other sensor. Also contestants should think that all the components are inside the can. The data must be captured by a base station.  Contestants must show simulation of data capture and reception. This mission is a tribute to the discoveries of wireless power and the fatherhood of the Internet of Things (IoT) by Nicola Tesla in the 1920s. For the NICOLA TESLA mission: PAPAGAYOS and CONDORS. (The CONDORS and PAPAGAYO-BIRDS teams participate in the NICOLA TESLA mission)

Cardio-satellite Mission (Reynolds Mission). In addition to the  CALDAS and TESLA Missions. The Cardio-satellite Missionmust adds a square wave oscillator circuit with a frequency controlled between 60 and 90 Hz with light output through an LED on the CanSat can - to simulate the pacemaker. This mission must add an optical sensor to pick up a simulation of a pacemaker and to transmit the signal to a base station (during  6 to 9 minutes). Contestants must to analyze the data obtained and by means of monitoring and data capture algorithms they must be represented with graphs that relate the various variables measured. This mission is a tribute to the electronic investigations of the heart carried out by Jorge Reynolds Pombo and his team. Mr. Reynolds is ”... an electronic engineer from Bogotá, internationally known for his electrocardiography work with whales. Many have wondered what interest there may be in someone studying the heart of whales. " (José Luís Villaveces, Nomada 19, Central University, October 2003, retrieved from: http://nomadas.ucentral.edu.co/index.php/8-articulos/26-tabla-de-content-no-19). For the Cardio-satellite (Reynolds) mission: The EAGLES.

CATEGORIES:

PARROTS. Groups whose members are students and a teacher of basic education from 1 to 9 grade.   The Parrots teams participate in the Sabio Caldas mission.

PAPAGAYO-BIRDS. Groups whose members are students and a teacher of secondary or vocational secondary education from 10 to 11 grade (high school). The PAPAGAYOS teams participate in the NICOLA TESLA mission.

CONDORS. Groups whose members are students of technological, military or university education from 1 to 7 semester.  The CONDORS teams participate in the NICOLA TESLA mission.

EAGLES. Groups whose members are undergraduate or graduate students from 8 to 10 semesters, any level up to doctorate. The EAGLES participate in the Cardio-satellite (Reynolds) mission.

IS THE PAPER REQUESTED A CRITICAL DESIGN REVIEW (CDR)?
According to NASA, it is a multidisciplinary technical document to ensure that a system can proceed to manufacturing, demonstration and testing and that it can meet established performance requirements within cost, schedule and risk. Taking into account that there is still no flight prior to the day of the event, the requested article is of a general nature about the design and ground tests of the CANSAT presented by the challenging team.

HOW CAN WE SEND A RESEACH REPORT TO A SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATION?
Participating teams that require it, will receive a letter of introduction to the editors of the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine; Engineering Networks Magazine: http://ieee-aess.org/publications/systems-magazine. They will also be presented to the magazine: Redes de Ingeniería UD. https://revistas.udistrital.edu.co/ojs/index.php/REDES and before other indexed publications of technical and scientific dissemination of Latin American Universities.
